Dy5topia Solo Show Kickstarter

For the past five months Chet Zar and I have been creating a Field Guide for his dark universe. This process has required a deep investigation into the only evidence of DY5TOPIA that we possess – Chet’s paintings. The information we have gathered has since been organized and and is currently being refined for publication. Throughout this process Chet has similarly embarked upon a personal journey, using his paint to flesh out the many dark corners of DY5TOPIA.

On October 15th, 2016 many of these new paintings will be unveiled at Copro Gallery for his annual solo show, and we would like to transport you to DY5TOPIA! The walls of Copro Gallery will be transformed into DY5TOPIA, smokestacks will be erected, Chet Zar will be scoring the event soundtrack, props will be installed and special character appearances of Chet Zar’s “Black Magick” and “Interloper” are scheduled! Everyone attending will be invited to dress as their favorite Chet Zar monster, or any monstrous being of choice. Placards will also be placed throughout the gallery with excerpts from DY5TOPIA: A Field Guide to the Dark Universe of Chet Zar, guiding you through the experience!

Dy5topia Solo Show Kickstarter

This Kickstarter is offering original paintings from Chet’s solo show at Copro Gallery, October 15th, 2016. Not only will you be able to get your hands on smaller items like the DY5TOPIA book, companion book, Chet Zar: I Like to Paint Monsters DVD, 5×7″ custom DY5TOPIA frames, and full sized DY5TOPIA frame-corner sculptures, but you will also have the opportunity to purchase custom framed paintings that will be featured in the solo show! Choose your favorite images, from Interlopers to Black Magick, landscapes to smokestacks, and so much more. This is your opportunity to get an original Chet Zar painting (before they are gone), and contribute to the success of the solo show, all in one! Documentary Street Date

225_chetzarThe “Chet Zar: I Like to Paint Monsters” Documentary Street Date has been released, and we are excited to say that this is only part of the good news we have today! The official street date is March 8, 2016 for DVD, which means the long wait is finally over! For those who have been following the creation of I Like to Paint Monsters from inception to, now, distribution, the wait has been lengthy to say the least. Chet Zar and I agreed in March 2012 to begin pursing a Kickstarter, funds from which I would produce the documentary. Therefore, in total, it has been four years to the month! That is a long time to ask an audience to remain interested, yet what we have discovered is that the Zarmy is not shrinking, rather growing!

I promised more good news, and I will adhere to my word. While you can certainly pre-order a copy of Chet Zar: I Like to Paint Monsters through Amazon, or rent it on iTunes (release date to be forthcoming), you will also have the opportunity to receive a copy through a soon to be announced Kickstarter, which Chet is hosting! The copies that Backers will receive are from the very first replication order, and will be signed/numbered. More importantly though is not what you will get, but what this soon to be announced Kickstarter is about.

Lav-Chet-and-Me

Last summer Chet and I began working on a Field Guide, if you will, to Chet’s Dark Universe. This will be your opportunity to enter the bizarre landscapes that Chet has channeled with his sketches, sculptures and paintings. You will be guided through the peculiar geography, culture, and creatures that inhabit a place not far removed from our own. You will see close-up sketches of accoutrements, landscapes and dwellings, and read about how this world works. Chet will be producing a great wealth of new material for the book, which will be available to Backers. The book will be filled with extensive explanations and footnotes authored by yours truly, detailing the more complex workings of this world, and its inhabitants! So stayed tuned for more news as we draw closer to a formal announcement!

What documentary street date blog would be without information concerning the DVD bonus features? In addition to the eighty minute feature documentary, we have worked hand in hand with First Run Features to include much more, such as: Extended Interrogations, Chopping Block: Deleted Scenes, Rogue’s Gallery: The Art of Chet Zar, Behind the Scenes Featurette, Time-Lapses: The Creation of Six Chet Zar Paintings, and Official Trailer! The documentary is in english, but is open to all regions, so it can be enjoyed anywhere! We are very excited for the Zarmy to finally see the film, but also for the world to be exposed to the genius of Chet Zar!

Chet Zar Documentary Kickstarter Success

Chet Zar Documentary Kickstarter Success! Thank you everyone for your support!!! We’ve successfully surpassed the minimum goal! If we can stretch this thing to $40k every Backer will receive a 2015 Chet Zar Calendar. Backer surveys will ask you for your favorite painting, and the top 12 choices will be featured in the Calendar! Let’s take this thing to the next level, and ensure that this movie becomes what it is truly destined to be! Head over to the ILTPM KS2 http://www.kck.st/1db4nfC MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA Chet and I were discussing the next steps for the documentary this morning, and I’ll tell you what I told him. The goal is to have the documentary complete mid to late July, which will put us in good standing for submissions to most large, international film festivals for 2015, namely Sundance, Tribeca, Atalanta, Toronto, Vancouver, and Cannes. While these large festivals are good for large scale exposure, many of the smaller festivals allow further growth of the cult following. These smaller festivals are much more personal and as a consequence facilitate a greater level of intimate promotion. So amongst the grandiose festivals, I intend to place ILTPM in many smaller ones as well. With additional funding I will be able to travel with the documentary while it runs the circuit, large and small, ensuring proper representation of our important project!
